Joy of cycling in the Kaszebe Runda

Health and sports

The countryside around Gdynia and Gdańsk is called Kaszuby (or Kashubia in English). Many people think that the best wayto explore its remarkable nature (the area is also known as Poland’s little Switzerland) is cycling.

Take part in the cycling event Kaszebe Runda! Every year in May a few hundreds of cyclists meet in the city of Kościerzyna in the middle of this beautiful region to participate in a bike event leading via picturesque roads. The participants can choose between three routes: 225 km, 121 km and 64 km. Having fun is a very important aspect of the race: there are no prizes, no winners and no losers: it’s all about feeling good. However, real athletes won’t be disappointed either: everyone’s time is measured – thus you can keep a check on your own records.

There are around 900 participants every year and the event is a well-known date in the sport calendar of northern Poland. The race is arranged by the probably most famous person working with cycling events, Andrzej Gołębiowski.

In the starf fee (not that high, actually) the organizers included: start number, time measurement, small meals along the route (drinks and light snacks), motorcycle escort, health care, technical help, road fees, a medal, a diploma, a warm meal on the finishing line, massage after the race. Not so little for that price…

Take a look at two video clips from the last time (they’re in Polish, but you can feel the atmosphere and see a bit of the route):
